Registrations now OPEN for 2020/21 season.

 

Hi everyone – just letting you know that registrations for the 2020/21 season are now open!

 

As per previous email and Facebook communications, we’re looking forward to getting started on another great season of Little Athletics at Newcastle City, and we’re hoping to make it as “normal” as possible under the circumstances, but just wanted to make you aware of the following information:

 

1) The number of people we can have at the Fearnley Dawes track on any given Monday night is limited, so we’re doing the following to make sure we stay under the allowed number:

  • - Registration numbers will be capped.  We’re sure there will be room for all returning and new athletes, but please make sure you register as soon as possible to secure your spot
  • - Limit of 1 parent/guardian per registered athlete to attend competition nights please
  • - Only fully registered members will be permitted to attend Monday Night competition, so “trial” memberships will be not offered this season

2) Due to the complications of catering etc. we won’t be having a pre-season party or muster nights this year.   Apologies to all those returning athletes, but be assured that we will have all your trophies and medals from last season ready for collection after we get started in October.

3) By direction of Little Athletics NSW, there will be no zone or regional carnivals this year.  They are still hoping to hold the State Championships in 2021, for which there will be separate qualifications meets, but details around this will be finalised later in the year

4) We will have some extra requirements of parents/athletes to help us comply with our COVID safety plan:

  • - Checking into the venue via QR code and mobile app will be required by all attending Monday night competition.   This is to be used in the case of contact tracing being required.
  • - Hand sanitising and temperature checking will also be done at the front gate
  • - Sanitising of equipment (throwing implements etc.) will be required before and after an age-group uses them (not for each athlete)

 

As per last year, registration is all done through the LANSW portal (go to the “Register Now” link on their page https://lansw.com.au/).   Registration fees for NCLAC this season will increase slightly to $170 per athlete to cover an increase in the cost of singlets.  Discounts for multiple children will still apply, as per the following table:

  • Family of 1 - $170
  • Family of 2 - $310 ($30 discount)
  • Family of 3 - $450 ($60 discount)
  • Family of 4 - $580 ($100 discount – we had two last year!)

Also, please keep in mind that we are an “Active Kids” provider, so you are perfectly entitled to use your NSW Active Kids Voucher for registration if you haven’t already used it.  This will bring the cost down by $100 per child - more information on the scheme can be found on the NSW Office of Sport website (https://sport.nsw.gov.au/sectordevelopment/activekids).

 

As last year, your registration fee will include a custom-printed singlet for each child – however one thing to keep in mind is that the system will default the size you selected last year, so if your little athlete has grown since then don’t forget to change it!

 

Our calendar will look a little different this year due to not having muster nights or zone/regional carnivals, but we’ve still scheduled the usual 20 Monday night competitions for the club – 10 before Christmas and 10 after.   Important dates for our coming season are as follows:

  • Registrations open – Friday 4th August
  • First competition night – Monday 12th October
  • Club Christmas Party – Monday 14th December
  • Return from Christmas break – Monday January 25th
  • Final competition night – Monday 29th March

When does it happen?

Our competitions run over summer. Monday 12th October 2020 is the first night for the 2020/21 season. Events start at 5:30pm at the Newcastle Athletics Field, Smith Street, Newcastle West.

What age group will I be in?

Age groups are determined by the year and month of birth. Click here for age group calculator.

Do I have to be good to compete?

No. Our motto is "family, fun and fitness", with the emphasis on doing your best and competing only with yourself. You can join with any level of skill or fitness.

How much does it cost?

  • Family of 1 - $170

What is expected of my parents?

All children must be accompanied by a parent. Athletes that do not have a parent present may be asked to sit out from events.

Because Little Athletics is a totally voluntary organisation, it cannot operate without the assistance of parents each week fulfilling the many and varied but simple duties required. These include officiating at an event-measuring distances or recording times, managing an age group, recording results,  to name just a few. Little Athletics is one of the few sports where parents can become fully involved in their child’s sporting interests. The night flows more smoothly and the kids have more fun when you are there helping and encouraging.

 

Do you Run a Tiny Tots Program?

We are not planning to run a Tiny Tots program for the 2020/21 season.
